Pietersburg
Polokwane, the capital of the Limpopo province in South Africa, is situated at an elevation of 1,312 meters above sea level. Founded by the Boers in 1886 as Pietersburg, the city adopted its current name in 2003, which means "safe place" in the Pedi language. Home to over 440,000 residents, 40% of whom are white, Polokwane is a center for diamond mining. The city enjoys a pleasant climate, with average temperatures reaching 27 °C in summer and 20 °C in winter. Polokwane was one of the host cities for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
